PRIMARY SCHOOL SESSION

Anna Parr

How to play English with primary school children

For young students play is one of the most natural ways of learning about the world around them. In order to teach them effectively we should enter their world and use the tools that seem most suitable for addressing their needs. English lessons offer a perfect opportunity for the use of games that not only create a friendly environment but, more importantly, provide optimal conditions for learning the language in a fun way

In this session we are going to look at how we as English teachers can use games as tools for teaching the language, while playing along with the children. We will investigate different types of play through hands-on interactive activities and ready to use ideas for classroom games that are great fun for young learners while increasing their knowledge of English vocabulary, grammar and communicative phrases at the same time.

TEENAGERS SESSION

Grzegorz Śpiewak

Error no terror. How to work with mistakes in the modern teenage language classroom.

Any English classroom is a world full of errors. But are all those errors equally worthy of language teacher’s attention? Which kinds of errors are likely to cause serious problems beyond the classroom? Are these the same ones we are used to correcting?? What should we take into consideration before we correct something that a student says or writes? Should we correct every grammatical error or not? Which error correction strategies will actually work well? If we choose not to correct, does it mean that the error will be completely ignored…?

These are some of the questions that we’ll deal with during this session, with lots of practical tips to be taken straight into your teenage English classroom. Amongst others, I’ll try to show you how to correct less and yet cause more learning in your students.
